2. Gargle with Saltwater

Gargle hot water mixed with salt every day. The hot water will help reduce any irritation in your throat and the salt will help break the mucus apart. Do it 2 to 3 times a day until your chest congestion clears up.

3. Try Gargling with Turmeric

Turmeric contains a high active compound called curcumin, which helps expectorate mucus and give you respiratory relief. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that can relieve the pain and symptoms of chest congestion. You can choose between gargling it with hot water or drinking it with milk, honey, and black pepper.

4. Drink Apple Cider Vinegar with Milk

Onions contain quercetin, which helps break down mucus. It also has an antimicrobial property that prevents infection. To top it all off, onion also prevents further buildup of mucus. Juice an onion then add an equal amount of lemon juice and honey with water, and drink it 3 to 4 times a day.

Ginger boosts your immune system and has anti-inflammatory properties. It contains polyphenols, which can prevent further release of mucus. The underlying cause of chest congestion can also be prevented with the use of ginger as it can fight off infections. Licorice can be used as an expectorant to help relieve you of some chest congestion symptoms. It can also help soothe your itchy throat caused by irritation.
